The Rediscovery of Water

The Rediscover of Water is a documents my journey losing and then regaining my hearing with cochlear implants. Among the many mundane sounds that I rediscovered was water. After my cochlear implant surgery, I reveled in the drip of a spout, the patter of rain, even the flush of a toilet - all sounds that had trickled out of my life with my progressive sensorineural hearing loss. While I fully respect the rich language and culture of the Deaf community, and their wholeness without access to spoken language and sound, as somebody who acquired a hearing loss late in adulthood, I will always be grateful to how hearing technology has allowed me to live my life and hear the magical in the mundane. This series explores the torus (which resembles the shape of a cochear/inner ear) as a sculptural form, as well as abstract representations of water and even sound.
